What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?

Breast Lift, also known as a “mastopexy,” is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape sagging breasts. Over time, factors such as aging, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations can cause the breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness. A breast lift works to reverse these changes, restoring a more lifted and youthful breast contour. self-image.

Breast Lift Real Results

Types of Breast Lift:

There are several types of breast lift techniques, each designed to address varying degrees of sagging:

Crescent Lift:

Ideal for minimal sagging, this method involves a small incision running halfway around the top half of the edge of the areola.

Peri-Areolar or "Donut" Lift:

Used for mild sagging, it requires an incision around the entire circumference of the areola.

Vertical or "Lollipop" Lift:

Suitable for moderate sagging, this technique involves incisions around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease.

Inverted T or "Anchor" Lift:

For significant sagging, this method involves incisions around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and then horizontally along the breast crease.

How It’s Done

Breast lift is typically performed under general anesthesia. Once anesthesia is administered, the surgeon makes the chosen incision type. Through this incision, the underlying breast tissue is reshaped to improve the contour and firmness of your breasts. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height.

If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin around the perimeter. Excess breast skin is then removed to compensate for loss of elasticity. The incisions are then closed with sutures once the desired shape is achieved.

Breast Lift Recovery and What to Expect

Recovery from a breast lift procedure involves a process that requires patience, care, and awareness.

Mid Recovery Phase (1-4 weeks)

Discomfort and Pain: Mild to moderate pain and discomfort are typical. Your surgeon will likely prescribe pain medication.

Support Garments: A surgical bra or compression garment will be recommended to minimize swelling and support the breasts.

Bruising and Swelling: Temporary bruising and swelling are typical, with cold compresses helping to reduce the swelling.

First Week

Activity Restrictions: Avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for 3-4 weeks. Depending on your job, you might return to work within a week.

Scar Care: As healing progresses, the focus might shift towards managing the appearance of scars with silicone sheets or scar gels.

Follow-Up Appointments: Regular check-ups with your surgeon are essential.

Long-Term Recovery

Resuming Activities: After about a month, you can gradually return to more strenuous activities.

Scar Maturation: Over time, scars will fade, though they'll always be present to some extent.

Final Results: The newly lifted breast profile will emerge as swelling subsides and the breasts settle, taking a few months.

Potential Side Effects

Sensation Changes: Changes in sensitivity might occur but typically return to normal within weeks or months.

Scarring: The appearance of incision scars usually improves over time with diligent care.
Communication with your plastic surgeon is vital throughout recovery. It’s crucial to ask questions, express concerns, and follow post-operative care guidelines for a successful recovery and optimal results.
