How It’s Done
The specific technique used may vary depending on individual needs and surgeon preference. In general, during a brow lift, incisions are strategically made to access the underlying forehead muscles and tissues. These incisions can be placed at the hairline, within the hair, or directly above the eyebrows, depending on the chosen approach.
Once the incisions are made, the surgeon carefully repositions the tissues, tightens underlying muscles, and removes any excess skin to create a smoother and more youthful brow contour. The incisions are then meticulously closed, often with the use of sutures or staples. Brow lift procedures are typically performed under anesthesia for patient comfort.
It’s essential to note that while this description outlines the general steps of a brow lift, the specific technique employed may vary based on the type of brow lift chosen, such as hairline, direct, or lateral brow lift, as well as the patient’s unique facial anatomy and desired results. Your surgeon will discuss the most suitable approach for your individual needs during your consultation.

Who is a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates for brow lift surgery exhibit the following qualities:
- Presence of sagging brows, deep forehead lines, or frown lines.
- Good overall health with no underlying medical conditions that could impair healing.
- Realistic expectations about the results of the procedure.
- Non-smokers or individuals willing to quit smoking before and after surgery.
- A desire to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance in the brow and forehead area.
Brow Lift Recovery and What to Expect
Immediate Post-Operative Phase (1-2 weeks):
Discomfort and Pain: Some discomfort, tightness, or mild pain in the brow and forehead region is to be expected. Your surgeon will prescribe pain medication to help manage any discomfort effectively.
Dressings and Bandages: Surgical dressings or bandages may be applied to the incision sites to protect them and minimize swelling. These dressings are usually removed within the first week.
Mid Recovery Phase (2-4 weeks):
Stitches Removal: If sutures were used, they are typically removed within the first week to ten days after surgery.
Residual Numbness: It’s common to experience some numbness or a “tight” sensation around the treated area. This sensation gradually diminishes as nerves regenerate, but it may persist for several weeks.
Long-Term Recovery (1-3 months):
Incision Healing: If your brow lift involved incisions, any scarring will continue to fade and blend with the natural skin texture and hairline. Scarring is usually discreet and well-hidden.
Resuming Normal Activities: Patients can typically resume all activities, including more vigorous exercise, based on their surgeon’s recommendations and assessment of the healing process.
Final Results (3-6 months):
Scar Maturation: Any remaining scarring, if present, will continue to fade over time and become inconspicuous.
Potential Side Effects: Like any surgical procedure, a brow lift carries potential risks, such as infection or adverse reactions to anesthesia. Regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon will help address any concerns and ensure a smooth recovery.
